Summertime

My favorite season of the four is summer. Warm, sometimes hot days, is something I long for each year. I love the long days that summer brings with her. The gift of what seems like never ending days of warmth and sunshine, along with the taste of wonderful, relaxing evenings brings a form of contentment.

The older I get, the more time seems precious. The dog days give us many more hours to enjoy the outdoors. Gatherings with family and friends seem abundant during vacation season, and bring to mind childhood shenanigans that seemed to never end. School days ending replaced by less hectic, more relaxed sense of freedom are days I reminisce about frequently.

During my childhood, daylight savings time meant poolside amusement, sandy beach days, and those kickball showdowns in the streets, after dinner. I can’t forget the less exciting days of just sipping lemonade under my mother’s enormous, weeping willow tree, catching a breeze every now and then.

These are some of the reasons I consider summer my favorite time of year. Just thinking back to the lazy, carefree feeling this delightful season ushers in, I realize I was always a fan. People are more willing to participate in activities, gather socially, while staying awake just a bit after their normal bedtime. There is just a purposeful feeling of excitement and rejuvenation that I loathe letting go of as September rolls around.

As fall of 2020 starts to appear, I for one, will be daydreaming of yet another year of cocktails and good times enjoyed with family and friends; sitting on my deck, staying outside, and soaking up every bit of the summer solstice. Until the sun makes its way around the earth and brings my special season back to me, I will look forward to the next three periods of the year with great anticipation for yet, another sunny, easygoing summer!

Long Live Summer,
