So many things have happened since my last entry. Our endless days of summer solstice, 2021, will be ending soon. Long days spent soaking up sunshine, taking sips of a favorite cold beverage, stunning sunsets, parties that never seem to end, lazy beach days, and a host of other outdoor activities start closing. As this new beginning ends, another season begins. Days become shorter, trees burst forth vibrant colors, school bells ring, football begins, and pumpkins emerge on our doorsteps. Not only does the outside weather change but our reaction to it, as well.
This year, in particular, will alter the way some of us behave. We are still in the middle of a pandemic, one that just won’t quit. Variants have brought government mandated vaccines. Masks are back (or perhaps never left), society is being split in half because of a 20 year war that ended in chaos, and our elected officials are failing us. Individuals are feeling threatened that their constitutional rights are being tossed about like a bad carnival ride, and the news media continues to hammer these issues twenty-four, seven!
Perhaps not only is our precious earth changing its axis, but our populous is changing direction. We no longer conform to the norm. Society has certainly changed, and like our autumn equinox, some of our long standing beliefs have lost their luster. If only our elected officials could work in harmony like our seasons do, perhaps their constituents would be able to, as well. Like a dysfunctional family, our elected officials seem to just badger one another constantly, and never really put forth concrete answers. Role models should model good behavior, attitude, and be open to diversity.
As we enter another season of change, let us reflect on some personal modification. We are individuals, and what works for one, might not work for others. What an individual considers adequate for their body, or their life, might be the total opposite of someone else’s values, religious or otherwise. Consider all the appropriate information, consult a reputable source, read, read, and read some more; cover all options, finally make a personal choice regarding the topic.
Change like our seasons, happens slowly; humans are constantly learning, making mistakes, and changing direction. At this season of transition, may we rise to the occasion, perhaps striving not for excellence, but embrace change as a tool for learning.
my two cents,
