Mid June brings a much needed reboot. Our days are becoming longer, and the weather is going hand and hand with that on the clock. I sense the anticipation. Students start imagining how they will spend their days out of the confines of school. Lots of fun days ahead, playing outside, visiting pools and water parks. The excitement of not having a fixed schedule always made me happy, as a parent.
Children are getting more daylight hours to spend outside having several exciting, new adventures. Adults experience a boost of adrenaline, as well. Longer days and better weather gives us a chance to gather more often with friends and family. I can’t really put my finger on it; generally, people seem to be happier during this time of the year.
It is amazing how much the weather and daylight saving time impacts our mental and physical well being. Perhaps vacations are being planned or families are just looking ahead to having extra time to get outdoors. Just having warmer days and nights to look forward to fills my head with dopamine. Plans or not, at least we have more daylight hours to enjoy!
Summer days, although they can bring some hot temperatures, just feel lighter, somehow. Leaving the house without gearing up with layers, definitely a win! In my experience, people have better dispositions. Longer daylight hours give us more opportunity to finish outdoor projects. I see more people taking an evening stroll. More daylight and warmer temperatures gives everyone a sense of more hours in their day.
As we enjoy my favorite season, take some time to rest, rejuvenate, soak up some vitamin D! Take time for yourself and above all else, get outdoors! We have to savor these summer days…remember fall is only three, short months ahead!
Let’s have some fun in the sun,
