Canon City, Colorado is a quaint town located in southern Colorado. It is approximately one hour south of Colorado Springs, which is best known for Pike’s Peak or America’s Mountain, and Garden of the Gods. At the same time, Canon City, is home to the highest suspension bridge in America, found at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park.
Besides this amazing bridge, Canon City is also known for hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor activities; including mountain biking, and rafting just to name a few.
In 2011, my husband and I decided to make this Fire District community of 35,000 people our home. We became immersed in this small mountain town and all its charm. Being the Fire Chief of this once volunteer only department, has been a career that my husband has devoted himself to. He has truly moved this department forward, with his intelligence and foresight within the fire service. With over 46 years experience, countless hours of schooling, and service to his field, he along with his highly intelligent staff, are putting the citizens of Canon City first.
After years of this department trying to fund a new fire station, one that is desperately needed to sustain this district, a state of the art fire station is almost ready to open. Not only will this be their new headquarters and a third fire station, but also a long awaited training facility as well.
With community support this new station is finally a reality! This project was the effort of many individuals who have a great commitment to our small, but wonderful, majestic mountain town. This new endeavor is not only wonderful for our firefighters, but the public benefits are truly a windfall! Response times will decrease, and having a training facility on site will ensure that our first responders become more highly skilled at their craft! How exciting for this neck of the woods.
I know I’m biased when I say that I could not be prouder of my husband and his staff; their never ending service, hard work and dedication to the residents of Canon City is a testament to them, and the fire service. A big “thank you” to all who made this station a reality, and to this community for their endorsement for moving into the future!
Congratulations CCFPD,
